What to expect from your free consultation

Your first 30 minutes with a Stokes Law Family lawyer is free, virtual, and confidential. We use the time to understand your situation — parenting, support, property division, agreements, or divorce — and to map out the realistic options available under Alberta family law. You'll leave the call with a clear sense of next steps, likely timelines, and an honest view of the costs involved. There is no pressure to retain us after the consultation.

Before the call, it helps to gather any court documents, separation agreements, parenting schedules, or recent income information you already have. If you don't have anything yet, that's fine too — we'll walk through what you'll need.

Serving clients across Alberta

Our Calgary office sits in the Beltline at #201, 724 11 Ave SW, a short walk from downtown and easily accessible from the LRT and Crowchild, Macleod, and Memorial corridors. We meet clients in person in Calgary and virtually anywhere in Alberta — including Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Chestermere, Strathmore, Canmore, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Edmonton.

We respond to all phone messages and email inquiries within one business day, Monday to Thursday. For urgent matters involving children's safety, please contact emergency services or the Calgary Police Service first, then reach out to us so we can take next steps once you and your family are safe.

Frequently asked questions

Is the initial consultation really free?
Yes — the first 30-minute virtual consultation is free with no obligation to retain us afterward.
Do you take legal aid certificates?
We do not currently accept Legal Aid Alberta certificates. We offer flat fees for several uncontested services and predictable hourly retainers for contested matters.
Can we meet entirely virtually?
Yes. Most of our clients across Alberta work with us entirely by video call, phone, and email. In-person meetings in Calgary are available when preferred.
How quickly can I get a lawyer?
For most new files we can schedule a consultation within a few business days. Urgent applications — including emergency parenting or protection matters — are triaged ahead of routine intake.
